Water reserves and reservoirs

💧 Water reserves in Spain

Spain's reservoirs currently hold 33,204 hm³, 59.2 % of their total capacity (56,043 hm³). Data from MITECO's Hydrological Bulletin (Boletín Hidrológico) as of 29 September 2026, published every Tuesday.

Water stored in each river basin district

The islands, Ceuta and Melilla are not covered by the Hydrological Bulletin. The "Cuencas Internas del País Vasco" (Basque Country internal basins) area is added to the Cantábrico Oriental (Eastern Cantabrian) district.

Reservoir by reservoir

Each square is a reservoir: its size is proportional to its capacity and the fill, to the water it currently holds. The colour shows whether it is above (teal) or below (brown) what is usual for this week of the year, that is, the average for the same week over the previous ten years.

The size of each square is proportional to the reservoir's capacity, and its fill to the percentage of water stored. Grey: not enough history. Source: MITECO – Boletín Hidrológico.

Basins above and below the usual level

The vs. 10-year average column compares the current fill level with that of the same week over the previous ten years: it is the best way of telling whether a basin is in a normal situation for the time of year.

Changes over the year

Each line is a calendar year (the last six): this shows whether current reserves are ahead of or behind previous years at the same time of year.
